Basic Terms
- IMPORTANT: This site is for use by autistic persons. We define this as:
- Persons who have a diagnosis of a pervasive developmental disorder (autism, Aspergers, Retts, PDD-NOS, etc., as well as hyperlexia, NVLD, Semantic-Pragmatic disorder, and any other "learning disabilities" or "personality disorders" or "mental illnesses" whose characteristics are that of autism spectrum conditions.
- Persons who sincerely believe they have an autism spectrum condition ("self-diagnosis"). The Autistics.org Project, sponsors of this website, does not distinguish between or discriminate against those who are self-diagnosed versus those who are formally diagnosed, given the long history of misdiagnoses, the shortage of professional capable of correctly diagnosing autism in adults, and the commonsense fact that autistic people who have somehow managed to avoid the professional and educational abuse that comes with being labeled autistic should not be required to submit themselves to potential abuse in order to be known for who they are.
- Non-autistic allies who openly support and participate in the neurodiversity movement are also welcome to participate in this site, provided they indicate that they do not identify as an autistic person where such an indication is appropriate (such as an "About Me") page.
- In certain circumstances, the administrators of this site may grant permission to persons who do not meet the above description to participate on this site
- Persons not qualified to join this site may post comments and otherwise participate wherever an account is not required.
Any other use of this site is prohibited.
Unqualified users who are found to be using this website for commercial purposes or for the promotion of ideas grossly inconsistent with the principles of neurodiversity and the value, dignity, and human rights of autistic persons, or who have knowingly misrepresented themselves as autistic, will have their accounts terminated, and may be charged for their use of the site at a rate of $50.00/day plus any expenses involved in the billing and collection of these charges, including and legal expenses.
- You must be 13 years and older to use this site.
- You are responsible for any activity that occurs under your
screen name.
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
- You must not abuse, harass, threaten, impersonate or
intimidate other users or members of the autistic community.
- You may not use The Real Voices of Autism service for any illegal or
unauthorized purpose. International users agree to comply with all
local laws regarding online conduct and acceptable content.
- You are solely responsible for your conduct and any data,
text, information, screen names, graphics, photos, profiles, audio
and video clips, links ('Content')that you submit, post, and display
on the The Real Voices of Autism service.
- The Real Voices of Autism is intended for personal use, not a business
solution. Professional or corporate users of The Real Voices of Autism are at your
own risk.
- You must not modify, adapt or hack The Real Voices of Autism or modify
another website so as to falsely imply that it is associated with
The Real Voices of Autism.
- You must not create or submit unwanted email to any
The Real Voices of Autism members ('Spam').
- You must not transmit any worms or viruses or any code of a
destructive nature.
- You must not, in the use of The Real Voices of Autism, violate any laws
in your jurisdiction (including but not limited to copyright laws).
- Any loss of, or damage to, data is not the responsibility
of The Real Voices of Autism. Use of this service is at your own risk.
Violation of any of these agreements will result in the
termination of your The Real Voices of Autism account. While The Real Voices of Autism prohibits
such conduct and content on its site, you understand and agree that
The Real Voices of Autism cannot be responsible for the Content posted on its web
site and, despite our best efforts, may be exposed to such materials and
that you use The Real Voices of Autism service at your own risk.
General Conditions
- We reserve the right to modify or terminate the
The Real Voices of Autism service for any reason, without notice at any time.
- We reserve the right to alter these Terms of Use at any
time. If the alterations constitute a material change to the Terms
of Use, we will notify you via an appropriate method. What is a
'material change' is at our discretion
- We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any
reason at any time.
Dispute Resolution
- This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Vermont without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree to personal jurisdiction by and venue in the state and federal courts of the State of Vermont, City of Burlington. This Agreement shall not be governed by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, the application of which is hereby expressly excluded.
